Afghanistan is one the countries where climate change has already disrupted normal life. Floods, droughts and frequent waves of temperature affected settlements. The environment of urban areas particularly Kabul is polluted to the extent that in 2018, 26,000 deaths were caused by it. Water table has lowered considerably in cities. In rural areas, karezes are dried and access to portable water is hard to reach. HRRAC through its advocacy work with communities and the government to address these issues. We strengthen the role of communities in mitigation and adaptation and work with private sector to understand their corporate environmental responsibilities. We work with private sector companies to development and implement their environmental obligations. HRRAC has official memorandum of understanding with the National Environmental Protection Agency and this has facilitated HRRAC to implement policy recommendations.
